-

-
Of course! Guides love to teach new people about the sport they are passionate about. Our advice is to just let your guide know your skill level when you book so they can prepare a trip to show you the ropes.
-
We launched with a focus on experiences in North America, but we are excited to announce that we now work with guides across the globe! You can see some of our favorite destinations here.
-
Currently, Guide Book focuses on offering the best fishing experiences. While you'll find a lot of fly fishing adventures on our site, we're expanding to include all types of fishing trips. Stay tuned for more outdoor adventure options in the future!

A good guide can be hard to come by. At Guide Book we ensure you find a good guide in a few ways:
Vetted Guides: Every guide on our platform undergoes a thorough vetting process. This includes detailed information checks and an interview with our in-house experts.
Verified Reviews: After each trip, we collect reviews from clients who booked through Guide Book. This means you get honest feedback from real experiences.
-
Guide Book is free to use! The prices set for trips are set directly by the guide. We use Stripe to facilitate payments. Stripe charges a small credit card fee on transactions.
Fishing trips prices can vary widely. The location, experience level, length of the trip and type of fishing all play a factor. If a trip looks a bit too expensive, check to see if the guide offers ¾ or half day trips as an alternative.
Booking A Guide
-
Guides are usually busy showing other clients a great time. So we make our in house guides available 24/7 to help answer any burning questions you might have quickly.
Once you have requested a booking, you will be prompted to message your guide directly so you can ask any additional questions you’d like.
-
The trip detail page shows the number of people included in the base price. It also shows the maximum capacity of the trip and the cost per additional head you might want to add if applicable.
-
When you find a trip you are ready to book, select the date of the trip, the length of the trip you want, and the number of people you will be bringing and click “Book Now”.
We partner with Stripe to securely manage your payment information. Stripe will authorize but not charge your credit card until your guide has confirmed your reservation.
Your guide will be notified of your booking request and once they approve it you will be charged a deposit. Each guide sets their own deposit requirements.
Your credit card will then be charged for the balance of your trip cost on the day of your trip.
-
Each of our guides is able to set their own cancellation policy. You can find it in the trip details.
-
Guide Book has partnered with Stripe to facilitate our payment process. Stripe is a leading global payment processing platform. Chances are you have used it before.
Guide Book does not collect or store any customer payment information. Stripe handles all of this and meets the most stringent data security requirements in the industry.
Preparing For Your Trip
-
Requirements for a fishing license vary state to state and change over time. We always recommend asking your guide, and checking the requirements of each state online before setting out.
Sometimes. In most states if you are fishing with a guide, you do not need to obtain a fishing license. But other states do require you to have one. Here is a full list of state license requirements.
-
The trip meeting location can be found on the trip detail page as well as the confirmation and reminder emails we will send you about your trip. For various reasons (ie. weather) the guide may change the meeting location, but will communicate this to you in advance.
-
We recommend tipping at least 20% for a job well done. Cash is king, but in case you don't have cash, we offer the ability to leave a tip by credit card during the review process after your trip.
-
A list of amenities included by the guide will be listed on the trip detail page. If there is ever a question, don't hesitate to ask your guide.
-
The guide will provide a list of recommended items to bring. However, we alway recommend bringing sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and weather appropriate clothing. A few other ideas include:
A rain jacket just in case.
A warm pullover for those chilly morning or evening boat rides.
-
Sometimes food is provided by the guide. If you have any specific food allergies or items you wish to avoid, please let the guide know!
-
We recommend asking your guide. Usually it is ok. But some guides would prefer alcohol on their boats for everyone's safety.
If you do bring alcohol, please don't bring glass!
-
Of course. Usually, gear is provided with a trip, but most guides won't have an issue with you bringing your own rod and reel. Don’t be offended if the guide lets you know that it is not set up properly for the type of fishing you will be doing. And please don’t expect the guide to rerig your setup with their equipment.
-
If you don't already have accommodations setup, we recommend asking your guide! Not only do they know the fishing, the likely live in the area too and can provide the best recommendations.

Guide Book hasn't figured out how to control the weather… yet. Sometimes bad weather happens and your safety is our top priority. Your guide is the expert so we rely on them to let everyone know if the weather is too bad to go fishing. If your guide cancels because of bad weather, you will be issued a full refund.
-
Any time a guide cancels a trip, for any reason, you will be issued a full refund. Mechanical breakdowns, illness, and family emergencies happen to all of us and guides are no exception.
If a guide does cancel their trip, our customer service team will work with that guide to understand what happened, and if you would like, do our best to find an alternative solution to get you out in the wild.
